Life story

William Faulkner was born in 1897 in Mississippi. He wasn't brought up in a family with a lot of money due to the Civil War but this didn't stop his family from writing. William got his inspirational to write from his great-grandfather who was a writer in the the late 17th century. He was Colonel William Falkner, and he got the first name William after his ancestor. Faulkner's last name at birth was actually Falkner without the "u" but after having a misprint on one of his pieces, he legally changed it Faulkner. His education didn't last past fifth grade, but instead tried to join the army. William got denied because of his weight and height but didn't stop him from joining the Canadian Air Force. He got injured and ended up going back to his hometown in Oxford to sign up for the University of Mississippi. He published some novels in the late 1920s and they didn't do very well but one success sent him to Hollywood. He was really recognized for his work in the 40s and got a Nobel Prize in 1949. Faulkner died in 1962 of a heart attack from a horse related injury.
